Diese Frage bekam Ryouta Murakami von einem Mädchen gestellt, als er noch klein war. Er weiß nichts von dem Mädchen, noch nicht einmal ihren wahren Namen. Sie ist nur unter dem Namen Kuroneko bekannt. Dennoch fühlt er sich sonderbar zu ihr hingezogen und die beiden werden zu Freunden. Bis es zu einem tragischen Unfall kommt, bei dem Kuroneko stirbt.
Bis heute gibt sich Murakami die Schuld am Tod seiner Kindheitsfreundin. In Gedanken an sie sucht er heute noch nach den Aliens, die Kuroneko zu sehen glaubte. In der Schule ein Außenseiter, der stille Streber der Klasse, der mit Mädchen seines Alters nicht klarkommt.
Eine Austauschschülerin kommt neu in die Klasse. Murakami traut seinen Augen kaum. Sie ist Kuroneko wie aus dem Gesicht geschnitten und stellt sich als Neko Kuroha vor. Sie ist ebenso sonderbar und beginnt zu behaupten, dass sie wisse, wann und warum Leute sterben. Auch Murakami erhält eine Warnung von ihr, die sich nur all zu bald als wahr herausstellen wird.
