In Meitantei Conan: Gouka no Himawari geht es um das Sonnenblumen Gemälde aus den Händen von Vincent van Gogh, bei welchem man lange Zeit glaubte es sei in Japan zerstört worden. Jirokichi Suzuki, der Generalberater des Suzuki-Konzerns möchte dieses Gemälde für satte 300 Millionen Dollar erwerben, um alle sieben Bilder für sich beanspruchen zu können. Diese sind nämlich auf der ganzen Welt verstreut und besitzen ein enorm hohen Sammlerwert. Jirokichi gibt bei einer weltweit übertragenden Live-Nachrichtensendung bekannt, dass die Werke im japanischen Museum »Lake Rock« einer Ausstellung beiwohnen und als die »größte Ausstellung aller Zeiten«, selbstverständlich gut gesichert ist, mit einer Panzerung, welche auch Conan und Ran sehen. Um weiteren Schutz gewährleisten zu können heuert Suzuki sieben Spezialisten, Die Sieben Samurai genannt, an, welche das „Sonnenblumen“-Meisterwerk beschützen sollen. Doch bevor das Gemälde vorgestellt werden kann taucht Kaito Kid auf und erklärt Jirokichi Suzuki den Krieg und verkündet, dass er das Gemälde um jeden Preis stehlen wird, bevor er sich aus dem Staub macht.
