Rika Furude und Satoko Houjou, die im vermeintlich beschaulichen Dorf Hinamizawa aufgewachsen sind, sind die besten Freunde und unzertrennbar. Diesen Wunsch könnte ihr Eua erfüllen, die ihr die Fähigkeit verleiht, alle Geschehnisse innerhalb einer Zeitschleife bewusst wahrzunehmen und dadurch so lange den Lauf der Dinge zu verändern versucht, bis ihr Vorhaben den gewünschten Erfolg erzielt und eine Zeitlinie entsteht, in der Rika für immer bei ihr in Hinamizawa bleibt. Bei jedem neuen Versuch von Satoko versinkt Rika immer mehr in Verzweiflung, denn auch sie nimmt die Ereignisse innerhalb der Zeitschleife bewusst wahr und ein Neustart ist immer mit dem Tod der beiden Mädchen verbunden …
