An einem lauen Sommertag fiebern die Schüler in dem Küstenstädchen Moshimo dem bevorstehenden Feuerwerksfestival entgegen. Die beiden Kumpel Norimichi und Yusuke schwärmen insgeheim für ihre hübsche Klassenkameradin Nazuna. Die hat derzeit ganz andere Probleme - sie ist unglücklich über die Entscheidung ihrer Mutter mit ihrem neuen Lebensgefährten wegziehen zu wollen und so plant sie wegzulaufen und beschließt insgeheim, dass Norimichi sie begleiten soll. Ein Fund am Strand entfnhrt Nazuna und Norimichi in eine magische Welt voller unbegrenzter
  M glichkeiten!

Sind Feuerwerksblumen auch von der Seite aus betrachtet rund? Diese tiefgrnndige Frage
  beschSftigt die Schuljungen Norimichi, Yusuke und Junichi zutiefst. Und so beschlie en die
  drei, diesem Geheimnis bei einem anstehenden gro en Feuerwerkfest vom  rtlichen
  Leuchtturm aus auf die Spur zu kommen. Zeitgleich ist die junge Nazuna zusehends
  unzufrieden mit ihrem Dasein in dem kleinen KnstenstSdtchen, welches die Kinder ihr
  Zuhause nennen. Als einzigen Ausweg sieht sie ihren Plan, mit Norimichi oder Yusuke
  davonzulaufen. Doch wer von den beiden mag wohl die bessere Wahl fnr ihre Flucht sein?

Wenn es um Feuerwerk geht, beschSftigt die Freunde um Norimichi hauptsSchlich, ob sie in
  ihrer Explosion rund oder flach sind. Um der Antwort auf den Grund zu gehen, wollen sie
  sich zum Leuchtturm aufmachen, um das Feuerwerk beim Festival von der Seite zu sehen.

Nazunas Mutter heiratet zum dritten Mal und die Familie plant, wegzuziehen. Obwohl sie
  weder bedeutsame Freundschaften geschlossen hat, noch eine Beziehung fnhrt, hadert Nazuna
  mit diesem Schicksal und will unter allen UmstSnden in der kleinen Knstenstadt bleiben. An
  dem Tag, als sie ihre Klassenlehrerin von dem Umzug in Kenntnis setzen muss, geht sie ein
  letztes Mal zum Strand. Im Wasser findet sie eine seltsame Glaskugel, gr  er als eine
  Murmel und mit wundersch n reflektierendem Inhalt. Als Nazuna die Glaskugel einsteckt,
  verSndert sich alles.

Ausgerechnet an ihrem letzten Tag will Nazuna aus sich herauskommen und einen der Jungs
  fragen, ob er sich das Feuerwerk mit ihr ansehen will. In Wirklichkeit plant sie dieses
  Date allerdings, um ihrer Mutter zu entkommen und von zu Hause wegzulaufen. Anhand eines
  Wettschwimmens mit Norimichi und seinem besten Freund Yusuke will sie fnr sich bestimmen,
  wen sie zum Feuerwerkfestival bitten m chte. Norimichi ist schon lange in sie verliebt und
  will unbedingt gewinnen. Doch als er sich am gegennberliegenden Beckenrand absto en will,
  verletzt er sich den Fu . Oben am Rand liegen Nazunas Sachen und die Glaskugel fSllt zu
  ihm ins Wasser...

Die Idee des Films stammt von Shunji Iwai und wurde bereits 1993 in Form der sechzehnten
  Episode der Serie äIfô ausgestrahlt. Diese Serie behandelte seltsame Geschichten aus aller
  Welt und wurde damals ein halbes Jahr lang auf Fuji TV gesendet. Den in Deutschland von
  Universum Film ver ffentlichte Film gab es in Japan bereits im August 2017 zu sehen und
  dabei holte er 12,8 Millionen US-Dollar an den Kinokassen ein.
