Im Original-Anime »Weathering With You: Das Mädchen, das die Sonne berührte« folgen wir dem Oberschüler Hodaka Morishima, der das Leben auf seiner kleinen, von der Außenwelt abgeschnittenen Heimatinsel satt hat und von dort wegläuft und nach Tokio zieht. Kaum im Großstadtdschungel der Millionenmetropole angekommen, muss er feststellen, dass er ziemlich pleite ist. Er fristet seine Tage in Einsamkeit und lebt von der Hand zum Mund, bis er eines Tages endlich eine Anstellung als Autor für ein fragwürdiges Esoterik-Magazin bekommt. So wirklich motiviert geht es mit der Arbeit allerdings nicht voran, bis Hodaka im Gewusel der Großstadt auf Hina trifft. Hina lebt nur mit ihrem jüngeren Bruder zusammen und obwohl die beiden nicht viel haben, leben sie dennoch ein glückliches Leben. Sie weiß den jungen Hodaka allerdings nicht nur durch ihr sonniges Gemüt zu begeistern, sondern auch mit ihrer ganz besonderen Fähigkeit: Sie kann das Wetter beeinflussen und an einem regnerischen Tag wie auf Befehl die Sonne scheinen lassen!

Während sich die Beziehung der beiden jungen Menschen entwickelt, ziehen jedoch dunkle Wolken über ihrem scheinbar unbeschwerten Leben auf, denn wer in die Gesetze der Natur eingreift, muss bereit sein, den Preis dafür zu zahlen …
