Der Trinker Quent Yaiden glaubt, dass er durch Wölfe seine Familie verloren hat und ist mit seinem Hund Blue auf der Jagd nach Wölfen. Doch seit mehr als 200 Jahren gelten die Wölfe als ausgestorben und die Leute, denen er das Gegenteil beweisen will, glauben ihm kein Wort.Der junge Kiba kommt in die Stadt Cold City, weil er einem speziellen Duft folgt …dem Duft der Blumen-Jungfrau »Cheza«, die auch der Weg zum Paradies sein soll, so zumindest glaubt es Kiba. Als Kiba sich ausruht, wird er von einer Gruppe Menschen gestört und greift sie an …dort trifft er auch zum ersten mal auf Tsume, der auch ein Wolf ist, wie Kiba, aber die Menschen in der Stadt für Überfälle auf Essenstransporter ausnutzt. Sie kämpfen miteinander, aber Kiba flüchtet, als ein kleiner Junge Tsume zu Hilfe kommt. Kiba wird von Quent angeschossen, woraufhin er ins Polizeigefängnis kommt, wo er fälschlicherweise für einen Hund gehalten wird. Dort trifft er dann auf den nächsten Gefährten Hige, der sich Kiba auch gleich anschließt. Schlussendlich taucht dann auch der vierte Wolf auf, Toboe, der nach Essen sucht und durch die Seitenstraßen streift.Tsume und Toboe sind auf der Flucht vor der Polizei, woraufhin sie dann endlich auf Kiba und Hige treffen. Die 3 Wölfe lassen sich von der Geschichte, die ihnen Kiba über das Paradies erzählt so fesseln, dass sie sich gemeinsam auf die Suche danach machen. Zusammen verlassen sie Cold City und beginnen eine epische und fantastische Reise, auf der sie zusammenhalten müssen, denn Quent ist hinter ihnen her, ebenso wie der geheimnisvolle Lord Darcia. Als die Wölfe endlich auf Cheza treffen, versucht Darcia alles, um sie wieder zu bekommen ….Wird es ihm gelingen? Wer oder was ist Cheza überhaupt? Werden die Wölfe das Paradies finden?
