With Karasuno High School preparing for the Spring Nationals, enthusiasm and tension are high among the team. However, when Kageyama is invited to the All-Japan Youth Training Camp, and Tsukishima is invited to the first-year only prefecture-wide training camp held in Shiratorizawa Academy, Hinata realizes that his teammates are about to improve tremendously while he'll be stuck as he is.
In a fit of jealousy, Hinata sneaks into the Shiratorizawa training camp, and is allowed to attend albeit only as a ball boy. With Kageyama exposed to the best players in the country, Tsukishima practicing alongside the best first years in the prefecture, and Hinata merely observing the others playing, they all improve in ways that they have never thought of, both as individuals and as a team–all in order to perform well at the Spring Nationals.
