Der charmante und immer faulenzende Ikta Solork geniesst sein Leben in vollen Zügen und ist hinter reifen Frauen her. Krieg hingegen verachtet er und so steht ihm der Sinn gar nicht danach, sich dem Militär anzuschliessen um im herrschenden Krieg des Kaiserreichs Katvarna mit der Republik Kioka zu kämpfen. Doch seine pflichtbewusste und ehrgeizige Kindheitsfreundin Yatorishino Igsem kann und will das nicht hinnehmen. Gemeinsam begeben sich die beiden auf den Weg zur Prüfung zum Militäroffizier. An Bord des Schiffes lernen sie nicht nur neue Freunde kennen, sie treffen auch auf die kaiserliche Prinzessin. Eine folgenschwere Begegnung, denn als die Truppe Schiffbruch erleidet und hinter feindlichen Linien landet, rettet Ikta selbstlos das Leben der jungen Adeligen. Zum Dank zum Reichsritter geschlagen, stehen ihm und seinen Kameraden nun alle Wege offen. Widerwillig fügt sich der taktisch talentierte Tunichtgut seinem Schicksal: einer glänzenden Karriere beim Militär ...
